RAINN Applauds Governor Evers for Signing AB 940, Critical Funding for Survivors of Abuse Into Law

Washington, D.C. – On March 27, 2024, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) signed AB 940 — a RAINN-supported bill that provides critical services for victims of crime-into law. This law funds victim services and domestic abuse services, training for grant recipients, and grants to child advocacy centers in Wisconsin.  The new law will help close funding gaps in Wisconsin left open after cuts to the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).

"VOCA funding surrounds survivors with critical support, from comforting materials in waiting rooms to training for staff, and survivor support services that victims rely on for their journey towards healing and justice," said RAINN Director of State Legislative Affairs, Mollie Montague.  "Unfortunately, these crucial services faced reductions due to cuts to VOCA.  AB 940 provides vital funding that starts to address the budget gap. We're glad to see Wisconsin prioritize survivors and support crucial support services.  We thank Representative Snyder and Senator James for their leadership in shepherding the passage of this critical bill for survivors in Wisconsin and commend Governor Evers for signing it into law.”
