Washington, D.C. - Today RAINN is proud to announce the release of Lean On Me: A Caregiver’s Guide To Safeguarding Children And Supporting Healing From Sexual Abuse, a free five-module video series and guidebook with must-know information for parents and caregivers. This resource can be found at: https://rainn.org/lean-on-me.
“This free caregiver’s resource is designed to help parents, caregivers, and youth-focused organizations learn how to create safe spaces for children to disclose sexual abuse and receive the support they need to heal. Adults who provide care for a child have the opportunity to shape the child’s life for the better. It's so important that caregivers have the information and resources they need to understand the risks to children and to support the children in their lives should sexual abuse occur. We’re proud to launch this video series and hope it will be an indispensable resource for parents and other caregivers,” said Erin Earp, interim vice president for public policy at RAINN.
“This series is the first of its kind to incorporate a trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and DEIB-aligned process. We hope that this unique approach provides practical and culturally competent guidance to address the safety and healing needs of all children and their families — including vulnerable minority populations which are disproportionately impacted by child sexual abuse,” said Samier Mansur, the Founder & CEO of No Limit Generation, which partnered with RAINN to produce the video series.
More about the series:
What distinguishes Lean on Me from other resources for parents is its modernized perspective and process: a focus on protecting kids online, accessibility for traditionally disenfranchised communities, and review by a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging panel to ensure the widest spectrum of experiences was represented and taken into account. Lean on Me gathered a variety of leading experts and survivors to support this learning experience including: Dr. Devjani (Juni) Banerjee-Stevens, Somiari Fubara, Richard Guerry, Titania Jordan, L’Tomay Douglas, Jerome Whitehead, Raven Jenerson, and Jann and Shari Simmons.
