Washington, D.C. - RAINN, in partnership with The Jan Broberg Foundation and Peacock, released the following statement as Peacock airs a new episode of A Friend of The Family, with episodes available to stream now. A Friend of the Family is based on Jan’s story of experiencing and healing from childhood sexual abuse trauma:
“It’s so important for parents and caregivers to understand how predators not only groom children, but also families and communities, to gain access to children. RAINN is proud to partner with Peacock and The Jan Broberg Foundation on the release of A Friend of the Family, which brings needed attention to the reality that child sexual abuse is most often committed by someone the child and family know and trust. While Jan’s experience took place decades ago, children today still face the same dangers; we are inspired by Jan’s efforts to prevent child sexual abuse.” - Erin Earp, interim vice president for public policy, RAINN
“It’s my hope to inspire survivors to heal from their wounds and, more importantly, to believe it is possible to reclaim their childhood and overcome their trauma to live full, happy lives no matter what age they may be.”- Jan Broberg, Activist and Author
Read the entire story in Jan’s memoir, The Jan Broberg Story: The True Crime Story of a Young Girl Abducted and Brainwashed by a Friend of the Family, released on Amazon this week. RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline offers free, confidential, 24/7 support at 800.656.HOPE (4673) and online.RAINN.org.

About The Jan Broberg Foundation
The Jan Broberg Foundation provides resources and direction to those that might need help in regaining their life and healing from sexual abuse. As part of our mission to empower survivors and stop abuse, we are launching an online membership community in early 2023 to foster an online and real-world community, welcoming all survivors and close supporters; Thrivivors. Our desire is to foster a community allowing abuse survivors and their family or affected community members to connect, to realize they’re not alone, and to give and receive crucial support on their journey.
