(February 10, 2015) -- The 2015 Grammy Awards interrupted its musical performances and celebrity-spottings to address a top concern: sexual violence. In a video message President Obama spoke about the importance of preventing domestic violence and sexual assault, highlighting the It’s On Us campaign, saying "It's on us, all of us, to create a culture where violence isn't tolerated, where survivors are supported, and where all our young people — men and women — can go as far as their talents and their dreams will take them.”
Following the President’s message, survivor Brooke Axtell took the stage and spoke about her experience as a survivor of domestic violence. In a powerful message to fellow survivors, Axtell said “Authentic love does not devalue another human being. Authentic love does not silence, shame, or abuse. If you are in a relationship with someone who does not honor or respect you, I want you to know that you are worthy of love. Please reach out for help. Your voice will save you.”
