Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15, and it is a great time to celebrate the heritage of the 40 million Americans who primarily speak Spanish. In honor of this month, RAINN wants to make sure it continues to provide the support and information that Spanish-speaking survivors in these communities deserve year-round.
Since RAINN launched the Spanish Online Hotline in 2015, Spanish-speaking survivors of sexual assault—and their family and friends—have had access to confidential support services as well as information about care, medical options, and the reporting process. In addition to the hotline, RAINN also offers a tool that allows users to search by state to identify Spanish-language sexual assault service providers near them.
“It can be very hard to talk about an experience of sexual violence and Spanish-speaking survivors may face additional challenges finding support,” said Keeli Sorensen, vice president of victim services. “Offering information and hotline services in Spanish allows us to ensure even more survivors get the help they deserve.”
RAINN is continuing to expand the number of Spanish translations of information available to survivors of sexual violences and loved ones. You can find the full list of translated articles—including four new additions—at rainn.org/es.
