Washington, D.C. - RAINN released the following statement after Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Maxwell was charged with five sex crimes, including transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and sex trafficking a minor.
“No sentence will undo the horrific abuse perpetrated and facilitated by Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. We understand that this sentence may be disappointing to some, given the severity of the crimes for which Maxwell was convicted. However, we hope that today’s sentence offers some healing for those she victimized. To the survivors who came forward to bring Maxwell and others to justice, and to the survivors who spoke today at the sentencing: We hear you, we thank you, and we are inspired by your strength. We believe that many other survivors will be inspired by your courage.” - Erinn Robinson, Director of Media Relations, RAINN.
