Washington, D.C. - RAINN released the following statement after the San Francisco Police Department’s announcement that it will end the practice of using DNA samples collected from rape victims to help identify suspects in other unrelated crimes: “We are pleased that the San Francisco Police Department has backed down from its misguided use of DNA collected from survivors of sexual assault. This is progress, but RAINN is committed to ending this practice throughout the country, and looks forward to working with legislators to make it illegal.
